South America is on my bucket list! Or to be more direct, Machu Picchu is. And Easter Island, oh and a cruise to Galapagos. And while I am down there I would not mind seeing Iguazu Falls or take in some of the Amazon River.

The Amazon River does not have even one bridge over it. The dry season would be fine, but the rainy season can bring the river up 30 or more feet and would wash the bridges out. But you will find suspension bridges in Peru, hence the Peru 06 Amazon Jungle Rope Bridge. Iguazu Falls borders Argentina and Brazil and are waterfalls that comprise the largest waterfall system in the world. The longest drop is just under 300 feet and the average flow rate is over 60,000 cu ft/s. That a lot of water!

Machu Picchu is of course the iconic Incan Ruins nestled high up in the Andes Mountains in Peru, high above the Urubamba River valley. It fascinates me and I want to go there someday. #1 on the bucketlist! Another place that amazes me is Easter Island and the Moai statues of human heads. I really want to see them. Maybe I can learn why they are there.

A province of Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands are considered to be one of the world’s most foremost destinations for wildlife viewing. Its isolated terrain shelters a diversity of plant and animal species, many found nowhere else. Many expedition style cruises are available for people that wish to experience this World Heritage Site, as well as land options with hotel stays and daily boat trips. Despite the cost, the cruise seems to be a time saving factor in visiting this area and you get to go to smaller islands that people who opt for a land vacation don’t get to do.
