Asia is the largest and most populated continents in the world. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean and Europe. In other words it is huge! For most of it’s countries you will need a Visa to travel there. Check out the link on my destination page under Travel Information Links for help with your Visa.
Some of the more popular countries to visit are China & Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan and India. Not that the others don’t appeal to some, the ones I mentioned are visited more often. Within in China you will find lots of temples and palaces that are quite ornate. Several were built on legends of superstition, such as the Forbidden City in Beijing. The Chinese also revere the Buddha and there are a few statues around the country. Perhaps one of the most iconic discoveries of ancient art, the Terracotta Soldiers in Xian are just amazing! They were buried with China’s first Emperor Qin Sh Huang to accompany him during his eternal rest.
Hong Kong is one of my favorite places. It is an autonomous territory in southeastern China that was formerly a British Colony. So you have a British and Asian flair here. I enjoyed the city on an over night lay over flying from the U.S. to Beijing. We arrived early in the morning, took the train into Kowloon, checked in to our hotel and then headed out on the double decker city bus for a ride around the islands. Stanley Market is a street market on Hong Kong island, which is opposite the harbor for Kowloon. A fun place to get bargains when looking for souvenirs. As you can see, the nights are lit up with neon signs from all the manufacturing companies that have a presence in Hong Kong. It is beautiful when the lights reflect from the water.
Thailand is a magical place with amazing beaches, ornate temples, opulent palaces and ancient ruins. It is a popular tourist destination, especially Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and the Phi Phi Islands.
