The Travel Institute has been around since the 60’s teaching people how to become a travel agent and engaging Travel Advisors to become certified. To me becoming a CTA Certified Travel Advisor was very important because it show my clients that I am the a trusted professional.
Being a Travel Advisor is so much more than selling you and airline ticket or cruise cabin. You must subscribe to ethical practices, have the desire to communicate professionally with your clients and run your business properly and honestly. While I have always done those things and more, I wanted their seal of approval to proudly display to the world. I take a lot of pride in my achievements. Does Someone You Love Have Dementia But Still Wants To Travel?
I have a client that has become a dear friend who I would consider an expert on the subject of Dementia. We have had many conversations about how Travel Advisors can better qualify travelers to enjoy a better travel experience. She has certainly opened my eyes. I feel after meeting with Jan, I am much more capable of assisting with the special travel needs for travelers wanting to include their loved one that is affected by Dementia. With a little guidance and care, everyone can enjoy their vacation to the fullest.
Allow me to introduce my good friend Jan Dougherty. Jan an RN, MS, FAAN is a nurse leader, innovator, and noted dementia care expert. Jan brings to her clients TravALZ innovation and expertise using dementia friendly travel solutions. The results for the travel industry and family caregivers ensure successful, safe and memorable travels.
With her own love of travel, she became aware of the demands created by travel. Her goal is to ensure that people living with dementia and family caregivers have access to strategies for improved travel experiences. Jan has written a book called “Travel Well With Dementia”. I am proud to say I ways asked to contribute to her research so she could gain insight from the Travel Advisor perspective as to what is feasible for people with Dementia that wish to still travel. Learn more about her book here.
